Inspire; reflective essays written by students that learn differently is book full of informative and personal essays for students who learn differently written by high school seniors who have struggled with similar circumstances. The advice is motivating, encouraging, even emotionally moving, all in an effort for the reader to walk away feeling confident and determined to take on their own learning challenge.
Some of our readers have said
"So awesome in the most literal sense!!!"
"I have been reading it (the book) with my 14 year old (with dyslexia). We are enjoying all of the stories and they hit so close to home".
Inspire; reflective essays by students that learn differently eBook RiSE Scholarship Foundation Jena Young
The book contains the scholarship essays. Some are presented just as the students wrote them with spelling errors included. The style is redundant--they all reflect the unseen questions.
What I do like is the consistantly positive stories. There are tips for students to reflect on and use.
i wish the scholarships were available to young people who are also in the first two years of college. Not all students are aware of this fine organization until they have the college prep done (which takes longer in every homework assignment!), win the admissions to colleges of their dreams and then discover scholarships--too late.

Inspire; reflective essays by students that learn differently eBook RiSE Scholarship Foundation Jena Young Reviews
I love that this book gives a fresh perspective on learning disabilities. I recommend it for kids with learning differences in middle school and high school as a way to relate to other kids with similar challenges. Anyone would really enjoy this read!
This book is a great resource for all students, not just those who learn differently. I am a college student with a learning disability, and reading through these essays has definitely helped keep me going. I am currently a senior trying to survive senior seminar. Looking at these essays and reading about how other students have not just survived but have conquered their challenges is helping me feel like I can do anything. I feel like for a student who does not have a learning disability, this book would still be interesting and informative because it would give them a different perspective on learning.
Another great thing that this book does is give study tips. Every student has his or her own way of studying. However, it is always good to learn new methods of studying and new ways of learning. That is going to be one of my biggest take aways from this book - new ways of learning material. Even though I am a senior in college, I can still stand to learn a new thing or two when it comes to learning. We never get to be too old to learn things.
Overall, this is a great book. I think that this book is a must read for everyone and that school children all the way up to adults will enjoy the book. It provides a unique perspective on school and learning that only high school students can provide. These essays are amazingly indepth and insightful for such young authors, but so valuable to everyone who picks up this book. Thank you RiSE!
This book is a great resource for all students, not just those who learn differently. As a college student with a learning disability, I am always looking for new sources of inspiration. I love inspirational quotes and especially inspirational stories about triumph over hard ships. This book helps me on my good days and on my bad days. These essays are great reminders that no matter how tough the situation is, there is always a way to conquer the situation.
Another great thing about this good is that it is wonderful not just for students with learning disabilities. These essays are helpful for anybody, even people who do not have learning disabilities. The essays help to expose this world of 'hidden disabilities' and helps to remind people that just because you cannot see the struggle, does not mean that people are not having a hard time.
Also, this book gives study tips, which is amazing. Every student has his or her own way of studying. However, it is always good to learn new methods of studying and new ways of learning. That is going to be one of my biggest take aways from this book - new ways of learning material.
Overall, this book is great. I think that this book is a must read for everyone and that school children all the way up to adults will enjoy the book. It provides a unique perspective on school and learning that only high school students can provide. These essays are amazingly in-depth and insightful for such young authors, but so valuable to everyone who picks up this book. Thank you RiSE!
Inspiring and motivating - The essays in this book make you cheer for the students that have overcome learning differences to chart their own path to success in school. Each essay, written by students themselves, provides insight, ideas, and advice on overcoming challenges that arise when one learns differently. I cannot imagine a better way to bring attention to the subject of learning differences, then through the voices of these students who are willing to share their stories and to demonstrate how hard work, determination, and lots of tenacity can get you through life's hardest challenges. Whether you are a parent of a child with learning differences or not, or a person with learning differences or not, there is much that can be learned from these essays that translates to everyday life. Read these essays and become INSPIRED!
As a parent of a dyslexic child as well as a teacher of children diagnosed with language/speech delays, I know first hand how difficult school can be for children who do not thrive in the traditional classroom. When children aren't learning the way we teach, it is time to start teaching the way they learn. "Inspire" shows us what is possible when we teach the way students learn. "Inspire" is packed full of essays written by students diagnosed with various learning disabilities. They write of their experiences in the academic world and how their challenges have only made them stronger. A learning disability diagnosis is neither good nor bad, just a part of one's learning profile. "Inspire" offers hope to parents of young children newly diagnosed with a learning disability and assures them that their child will not only be OK but they will be AWESOME, happy and successful. For a child with a learning disability, this book shows him he is not alone and yes, he is SMART. "Inspire" is a great read for all parents and especially wonderful to share with middle school and older students with learning disabilities.
